Thomas Krasonis is the regular season champion in the OPEN category!
Thomas Krasonis is the regular season champion in the OPEN category of the NASCAR Euro Series! The first Greek professional racing driver celebrated victory in the second race of the OPEN category at Most in the Czech Republic and, with the 40 points he earned, reached 246. As the regular season comes to an end, his worst result of the season so far, which was in the first race at Brands Hatch (17 points), is removed! Thus, with victories in Spain and Italy and a double victory in the Czech Republic, he finished the regular season at the top of the standings, five points ahead of Martin Doubek and 17 ahead of Melvin De Groot.
Krasonis proved once again that he knows how to manage the race in difficult circumstances. This was the case in the second race at Most, when a yellow flag was raised due to incidents on the track. At the restart, with a masterful move from the outside, he overtook two of his rivals and found himself in the lead, where he remained until the race was stopped two laps before the end. After the red flag, the race ended behind the safety car, with Krasonis climbing to the top step of the podium, ending the regular season in the OPEN category in dream fashion.
In the PRO race, which brought the curtain down on the three-day event at Most, Krasonis was in 8th place on the grid. Seconds after the start, as he approached the second turn of the track, he was hit on the right side, causing the car to lift up on two wheels and suffer extensive damage. In fact, due to the incident, he found himself in 18th place in the standings, but with patience and perseverance, he managed to finish 11th and collect important points ahead of the playoffs. After the completion of the second race in the Czech Republic, Thomas Krasonis has 233 points in the PRO category and is fourth in the standings, while he is also second in the junior standings. He is fourth in the team standings with 118 points.
Thomas Krasonis is participating in both categories of the NASCAR Euro Series again this year, PRO and OREN, driving the Chevrolet Camaro with the number “13” of the top team in the Championship, the Belgian PK Carsport, in all races. Thomas Krasonis’ efforts in the NASCAR Euro Series are supported by Costamare Shipping Company and Dodoni Dairy, while medical coverage is provided by the Athens Medical Group.
The next stop for the NASCAR Euro Series Championship is the double race in Germany on September 20 and 21 at the Oschersleben circuit, which is also the first of the two playoff rounds of the season with double points for drivers in each race.
