Thomas Krasonis previews the NASCAR GP Croatia

Autodrom Most proved to be a tough one for Thomas Krasonis, who takes the positives from that weekend onto the one here in Grobnik.

Automotodrom Grobnik: that’s the next stop on this year’s NASCAR Whelen Euro Series, the 7th and 8th round of the championship.

It is a relatively short track, measuring at 4.168 km, with 18 turns. The Cavle-based circuit is characterised by the long flat-out zone on the start-finish straight and the fast right-handed kink before that, exiting out of the last proper corner.

The inner part of the circuit is quite more technical, resembling Most, which should put Thomas at a good place coming into this weekend.

Let’s not forget that Thomas Krasonis did the most overtakes in one race last time out in the Czech track, as you can see from this onboard video below:

-What part of the weekend at Most do you choose to keep with you for this GP?

”The fact that I had the speed and I was really competitive. Thes things boost my morale and help me go forward, because they show me that I improve my craft in each and every race.”

-How much acquainted are you with the Grobnik circuit?

”This will be the first time I race at this track. I have studied video footage and I am prepared for it as much as I can before actually driving in it.”

-What are your expectations for the latter part of this year’s championship?

”I think it’s about time to get the results I want. I am ready for this, and it’s only a matter of time before it happens.”

NASCAR GP Czech Republic – Thomas Krasonis has a DNS on Race 1

Thomas Krasonis did not start Race 1 at the Autodromo Most, due to damage on his car.

Race 1 of the EuroNASCAR 2 category started on 16:00 local time at Czechia, but Thomas Krasonis did not take part in it.

Unfortunately, an incident on the EuroNASCAR Pro race earlier in the day damaged the car, and there was not enough time to repair it.

As a result, he did not participate at the EuroNASCAR 2 race.

Now, the team saved the tires and Thomas his energy for Race 2, on Sunday morning.

That means that Krasonis will start from the last position, and with the will to fight for a top 10 finish in a track that he seem to enjoy, after finishing P11 on the qualifying earlier today.

Thomas Krasonis previews the NASCAR GP Czech Republic

Thomas Krasonis returns from the summer break, ready to give everything he has after a strong result at Brands Hatch. Next stop: Autodrom Most!

On 28 and 29 of August, Thomas Krasonis and the Academy Motorsport team will compete in the third round of this year’s EuroNASCAR championship, the NASCAR GP Czech Republic.

We sat down with Thomas for a quick Q&A, to get his feeling after the long weeks without a race.

-How was the summer break for you?

I didn’t have enough time to go to vacations this summer, due to the commitments I had. I left for a week of vacation and peace of mind in Crete, and now I’m ready for the races at Most!

-Talk us through the experience of working with the Centaurus Racing Team.

It was a beautiful and unique experience. It’s a group of 42 mechanics and enginners from the University of Thessaly, and they outdid themselves in order to build and race this race car. They have my utmost respect, and I thank them for the opportunity to compete with it.

-What are your past experiences at the Most circuit?

I have raced there before. It’s a very fast flowing and pleasing to drive in track. In fact, it’s one of my favorites in the EuroNASCAR calendar!

-How important was that second race result for you at Brands Hatch?

It was like a vindication for me. After one year out of the game, I proved that I am still really competitive. That was important in terms of psychological boost and I’m ready to tackle the remaining races of the championship.

-So, what are your expectations for the race weekened in Czechia?

If everything goes to plan, I don’t believe I lack in any aspect to the guys in front. Good qualifying and a good start will help us take a solid result, with the goal always being a finishing position in the top 10.

FS East: Η επιτυχημένη συνεργασία της Centaurus Racing Team με τον Θ. Κρασώνη στο τιμόνι

Η Centaurus Racing Team και ο Θωμάς Κρασώνης συμμετείχαν στον διαγωνισμό Formula Student της Ουγγαρία.

Αναλυτικά η ενημέρωση από την ομάδα του Πανεπιστημίου Θεσσαλίας:

Άλλη μια αγωνιστική περίοδος έκανε τον κύκλο της για την ομάδα μας με την επιστροφή μας στην Ελλάδα.

Ήταν μια ξεχωριστή εμπειρία καθώς συμμετείχαμε σε δυο διαγωνισμούς, της Αυστρίας και της Ουγγαρίας μετά από έναν ολόκληρο χρόνο αποχής από τις πίστες λόγω της πανδημίας.

Ο πρώτος διαγωνισμός , της Αυστρίας , ήταν μια μοναδική εμπειρία που μας έφερε αντιμέτωπους με μερικά από τα πιο γνωστά πανεπιστήμια του κόσμου και έκλεισε με τη σημαντική διάκριση της 4ης θέσης στο στατικό αγώνισμα του Design. Ορισμένες τεχνικές δυσκολίες, ωστόσο, δεν μας επέτρεψαν να αποδώσουμε το ίδιο καλά και στα δυναμικά αγωνίσματα του αυτοκινήτου.

Κοιτώντας μόνο μπροστά και έχοντας γεμίσει με περισσότερη όρεξη και γνώση το ενδιάμεσο των δυο διαγωνισμών μας βρήκε στο Γκρατς της Αυστρίας και στις τελευταίες διορθώσεις του Amphion R για τον διαγωνισμό της Ουγγαρίας. Εκεί φάνηκε να είμαστε σε θέση να ανεβάσουμε ακόμα πιο ψηλά τον πήχη καταφέρνοντας την 7η θέση στην κατάταξη των στατικών αγωνισμάτων και τη 13η στην γενική κατάταξη του διαγωνισμού.

Κάπως έτσι κλείνει η φετινή χρονιά αφήνοντας πολλές αναμνήσεις και έντονα συναισθήματα στα μέλη που ολοκλήρωσαν τον κύκλο τους στην ομάδα παράλληλα με τη λήξη του τελευταίου διαγωνισμού, και με ακόμα περισσότερη γνώση και όρεξη για δουλειά να περιμένει τα μέλη που συνεχίζουν ή ξεκινούν τώρα.

Ένα μεγάλο και θερμό ευχαριστώ αξίζει σε όλους τους χορηγούς μας που στηρίζουν την προσπάθεια και επενδύουν στη γνώση και την εξέλιξη της ομάδας μας παρά τις δυσκολίες των καιρών. Χάρη στις υλικές αλλά και χρηματικές χορηγίες είμαστε κάθε χρόνο σε θέση να μπορούμε να κατασκευάσουμε ένα ανταγωνιστικό μονοθέσιο και να παρευρισκόμαστε στους διαγωνισμούς του Formula Student.

Τέλος, δεν ξεχνάμε τους γονείς που κατανοούν και ενισχύουν τις προσπάθειές μας με κάθε δυνατό τρόπο αφήνοντάς μας χώρο να κάνουμε πράξη τα όνειρά μας.

FS Austria – Ενθαρρυντικά αποτελέσματα για την Centaurus Racing Team με τον Θ. Κρασώνη στο τιμόνι

Η Centaurus Racing Team και ο Θωμάς Κρασώνης συμμετείχαν στον διαγωνισμό Formula Student της Αυστρίας, με την ομάδα να κατακτά σημαντικές επιτυχίες στα επιμέρους αγωνίσματα. 

Αναλυτικά η ενημέρωση από την ομάδα του Πανεπιστημίου Θεσσαλίας:

Μετά από έναν ολόκληρο χρόνο έρευνας και μελέτης, η φετινή αγωνιστική περίοδος για την ομάδα μας περιέχει τους διαγωνισμούς της Αυστρίας και της Ουγγαρίας. Καθώς οι διαγωνισμοί της περσινής χρονιάς ακυρώθηκαν λόγω της πανδημίας κληθήκαμε να ανταπεξέλθουμε σε πρωτόγνωρες για όλους συνθήκες.

Συνεχίσαμε τη μελέτη του μονοθεσίου μας, επικοινωνήσαμε με επαγγελματίες του χώρου και αναπτύξαμε την έρευνά μας. Αυτή την περίοδο έχουμε ολοκληρώσει τον έναν εκ των δύο διαγωνισμών που θα συμμετέχουμε φέτος, αυτόν της Αυστρίας ανάμεσα σε 60 ομάδες.

Η ομάδα μας για πρώτη φορά συμμετείχε στον διαγωνισμό, έναν από τους πιο απαιτητικούς του Formula Student. Ήταν μια ξεχωριστή εμπειρία για όλα τα μέλη, αφού καταφέραμε να διακριθούμε 4οι στο στατικό αγώνισμα του Engineering Design, 15οι στο Cost and Manufacturing, και 17οι στο Business Plan.

Ορισμένες τεχνικές δυσκολίες, ωστόσο, δεν κατέστησαν δυνατό να πετύχουμε το μέγιστο και στα δυναμικά αγωνίσματα του διαγωνισμού. Σειρά έχει ο διαγωνισμός της Ουγγαρίας (07/08-11/08). Έχοντας λάβει την ανατροφοδότηση των κριτών από τον τελευταίο διαγωνισμό κάνουμε τις απαραίτητες αλλαγές που χρειάζονται και είμαστε έτοιμοι να αποδώσουμε στο μέγιστο των δυνατοτήτων μας.

Σε αυτό το σημείο θέλουμε να ευχαριστήσουμε θερμά τους χορηγούς μας χάρη στους οποίους καταφέρνουμε να συνεχίζουμε κάθε χρόνο την έρευνά μας και να εξελίσσουμε τα μονοθέσια που κατασκευάζουμε.

Centaurus Racing Team: Δοκιμές για τον Θωμά Κρασώνη ενόψει των διαγωνισμών σε Αυστρία Ουγγαρία

Ο Θωμάς Κρασώνης βρέθηκε στον Βόλο το περασμένο Σαββατοκύριακο, για τις πρώτες δοκιμές με την ομάδα Formula Student του Πανεπιστημίου Θεσσαλίας.

Η Centaurus Racing Team αποτελεί ομάδα του Τμήματος Μηχανολόγων Μηχανικών, του Πανεπιστημίου Θεσσαλίας. Συστάθηκε το 2009 από προπτυχιακούς φοιτητές του τμήματος και δραστηριοποιείται στο χώρο του σχεδιασμού και κατασκευής μονοθέσιου αυτοκινήτου τύπου Formula.

Μετά από πρόσκλησή της, ο Θωμάς βρέθηκε στον Βόλο και οδήγησε το νέο της μονοθέσιου, με το οποίο θα συμμετάσχει ως οδηγός ο ίδιος στην Αυστρία (25-29 Ιουλίου) και την Ουγγαρία (3-8 Αυγούστου).

Αν και ο αντίπαλος δεν είναι ένας άλλος οδηγός, αλλά το χρονόμετρο κι οι ανάγκες του εκάστοτε αγωνίσματος, ο Θωμάς προετοιμάζεται για να ανταπεξέλθει σε αυτήν την ξεχωριστή πρόκληση, ενώ συνεχίζει να προπονείται και για τον αγώνα του EuroNASCAR στο Most της Τσεχίας, στις 27 Αυγούστου.

EuroNASCAR Brands Hatch: Top 10 finish for Thomas Krasonis on Race 2

Thomas Krasonis climbed up 7 places to grab P9 in an amazing Race 2 at the Brands Hatch circuit.

After a dismal Race 1 in a track that Thomas knows very well and likes as much as any circuit, Race 2 saw him getting a hard-fought top 10 finishing position.

Having started from P16, since he had achieved the 16th fastest lap time during Saturday’s race, he had an uplift battle to score points.

And battle he did, as he gained two positions on the opening lap, and steadily built on that.

One retirement in front of him, helped him reach P13, and then had his eyes set on a top 10 spot.

In the next 10 laps, he clinically passed his opponents, with his last battle for P9 being the most impressive, as he closed up to Veronesi, who was 4 seconds ahead of him. He cut down the gap, and then made the pass to ensure he had a good spot to stay in the top 10, and in the meantime he had achieved a lap time of 50.6 seconds, the 5th fastest of the race.

In a track where the overtaking is difficult, due to its narrow straights and many medium-speed corners, Thomas put on a show and he achieved his goal, which is always a top 10 finishing position.

In addition to the points that P9 awards in EuroNASCAR, Thomas gained 4 more points for his overtakes during the race.

EuroNASCAR Brands Hatch – Mechanical issue haults Thomas Krasonis’ progress in Race 1

Thomas Krasonis had to retire from Race 1 at the Brands Hatch NASCAR weekend, due to a failure on the gearbox.

It was one of those days for Thomas Krasonis, who failed to finish the first of two races at the Brands Hatch circuit, because his gearbox failed in an unfortunate event.

Thomas started the race from P14, and even though he lost one position after the first lap, he climbed up to P12 after the Safety Car period ended.

For the next 6-7 laps, he continuously battled with his teammate, Vladimiros Tziortzis, as well as Naveh Talor and Yevgen Sokolovskiy for P11.

However, on lap 19 he suffered a problem with his gearbox on the EuroNASCAR FJ 2020 car, and had to pull off the racing line and onto the grass, to retire the car.

It was a really good showing of attacking, yet patient driving style from Krasonis, who will now aim for a better result come Race 2, on Sunday afternoon.

EuroNASCAR – 2021 NASCAR GP UK Preview

The 2021 NASCAR Euro Whelen Series continues this weekend at the Brands Hatch circuit, and Thomas Krasonis will be competing in the EuroNASCAR 2 category, with the EuroNASCAR FJ 2020 car.

It’s been a lengthy break between the opening race weekend in Valencia to this coming weekend in England, West Kingsdown.

After a very positive Race 1 at the Ricardo Tormo circuit, Thomas Krasonis is ready to tackle the second round of the season.

It’s a track that Thomas knows very well, having raced there previously in in 2019, in the EuroNASCAR 2 category.

The 1.944 km circuit is the Indy version of Brands Hatch. Situated in the southeast of England, it offers a unique challenge for the monstrous NASCAR machines, with just 6 corners, all but one being right handers.

After the first two races of the season, Thomas Krasonis is at the P15 in the standings, with Academy Motosport holding the third overall position on the team standings.

‘Brands Hatch is definitely the most exciting race for me personally,’ said Thomas Krasonis.

‘For one, it’s my favorite circuit on the calendar, and secondly, I have had my best ever finish in the series there. Therefore I am looking forward to race again in British ground in a high level competition once again.’
