Krasonis: “There are two races left…”

Thomas Krasonis was full of emotion after the second OPEN race and the result that put him +35 ahead of Martin Doubek in the battle for the title. “I feel great! I wanted a win in Germany, I deserved it yesterday, but as I said after Saturday’s race, Bruno raced exceptionally well. Today I tried to pressure Bruno to push him into making a mistake, but when Patrick approached me with the intention of passing us both, I decided I had to make my move immediately. And that’s what I did. I made the move from the inside, passed first, and won the race. Fortunately, the weather was on our side, as it started raining as soon as the race ended! There are two races left to complete the Championship.”

He added: ” I want to thank once again everyone who is by my side. My sponsors, Costamare and Dodoni, my mentor Alon Day, my trainer Paul Timbas, my family who supports me, my friends, and of course my team, PK Carsport.”

For his part, Thomas Krasonis’ mentor and multiple NASCAR Euro Series champion Alon Day emphasized: “It was one of the best races ever held in the Championship. Thomas’ overtaking was amazing. I’m speechless! At a time when he was under a lot of pressure from the cars behind him, he chose to make this impressive move from the outside and took the win.”

Another victory in the OPEN for Thomas Krasonis!

A victory that brings him even closer to achieving this year’s big goal, which is none other than winning the title in the OPEN category of the NASCAR Euro Series, celebrated Thomas Krasonis in Sunday’s race at the Oschersleben track!

The first Greek professional racing driver was impressive in Sunday’s race, climbing to the top step of the podium and earning 80 points. This brings Krasonis’ total to 396 points, putting him 35 points ahead of second-placed Martin Doubek and 48 points ahead of Saturday’s race winner at the German track, Bruno Mulders.

Krasonis fought his hardest battle during the race against the Dutchman. The two of them broke away from the rest of the cars early on, but Mulders’ pace limited Krasonis, allowing the other drivers to gradually catch up. The difference in pace between the Dutchman and Krasonis became apparent when, four laps before the checkered flag, Krasonis passed Mulders and within a lap and a half had created a gap of almost two seconds from the other drivers! Managing the last two laps exceptionally well, Thomas Krasonis saw the checkered flag first in the OPEN class for the fifth time this year and climbed to the top step of the podium!

In the PRO category race, which brought the three-day program at Oschersleben to a close, Thomas Krasonis was in fifth place until he was forced to retire due to a mechanical problem. Thus, with 327 points, he is 55 points away from the top of the PRO standings.

Thomas Krasonis is participating in both categories of the NASCAR Euro Series again this year, PRO and OPEN, driving the Chevrolet Camaro with the number “13” for the top team in the Championship, Belgian PK Carsport, in all races.

Thomas Krasonis’ efforts in the NASCAR Euro Series are supported by Costamare Shipping Company and Dodoni Dairy, while medical coverage is provided by the Athens Medical Group.

The curtain will fall on the season on October 11-12 at the Zolder circuit in Belgium with the final double race, in which double points will also be awarded.

Krasonis: “We are ready to give it all”

Thomas Krasonis has been training intensively for the first big event of the NASCAR Euro Series playoffs. Immediately after the race at Most, the first Greek professional racing driver traveled to Oschersleben where, under the guidance of Alon Day, he conducted tests in order to be fully prepared for the two-day race at the German track.

“To be honest, I didn’t have time to rest at all after Most, as immediately after the race we went to Germany to do some testing with the team and Alon in preparation for the playoffs. Everything went very well, we are completely satisfied with the work we did on the track and we are ready to give it our all. The Championship has reached its most critical point, as the double points in each of the remaining races can play a pivotal role in the title battle. However, we are not feeling any pressure and will give our all on the track,” said Thomas Krasonis.

He added: “I would like to thank once again everyone who supports me. My sponsors, Costamare and Dodoni, Alon Day, who has helped me a lot in recent months to develop as a driver, my trainer Paul Tyba, my family who supports me, my friends, and of course my team, PK Carsport.”

Krasonis: “Very important points in view of the grand final”

Thomas Krasonis was particularly satisfied with both his racing presence and the points from the races in Oschersleben.

“Before the races at the German circuit I had said that it was a very important race weekend, as we would have the opportunity to score a lot of points precisely because in the semi-finals and finals points count double. The truth is that the weekend started for us with bad luck in Saturday’s qualifying in the PRO category. But in the races things went great and we managed to place very well both Saturday and Sunday in both categories. Our distance from the top has been reduced and now we are focusing our attention on the Zolder final in October, where we will give it our all in order to achieve our big goal this year” said Thomas Krasonis.

He went on to say: “I want to thank my team, Marko Stipp Motorsport, which prepared the car perfectly for this weekend’s races. Of course, special thanks to Alon Day, who in the days of testing leading up to the race, showed me everything I needed to do to get these results. We return to Greece to intensify our preparations ahead of the final race weekend on 12 and 13 October in Belgium.”

Highly successful racing weekend in Oschersleben for Thomas Krasonis

The race weekend at the Oschersleben circuit in Germany was extremely successful for Thomas Krasonis. The first Greek professional racing driver, completed his presence in the double semi-final of the season in EuroNASCAR, with results that make him more than optimistic ahead of the grand final in Zolder, Belgium on 12 and 13 October!

In Saturday’s first race in the PRO class, Krasonis started from the last position on the grid due to a mechanical problem his car had in qualifying. However, not only was he not disappointed, but by driving impressively in the race, he managed to finish in the top ten, finishing ninth and gaining valuable points. At the same time he was second in the Juniors category.

In Sunday’s race, Thomas Krasonis finished sixth, while he was third in the juniors, completing an ideal weekend in the PRO category.

In EuroNASCAR 2, Thomas Krasonis set sixth time in qualifying, securing his presence on the third row of the grid for Saturday’s race. The race went even better for the Greek driver, who touched the podium, finishing fourth, just a few thousandths of a second behind Gil Linster.

In Sunday’s race he was also sixth on the grid, a position he maintained throughout the race despite the tough battles he fought.

Thanks to the very good results of the weekend in Oschersleben, Thomas Krasonis moved up several places in both the PRO and EuroNASCAR 2 standings. In PRO he is now in ninth place with 330 points, while he is third in the Juniors’ individual standings.

In the EuroNASCAR 2 standings he is now fourth with 374 points, just 62 away from the top. He is also third in the Endurance Teams Championship standings with 211 points.

Krasonis: “Oschersleben is very difficult and technical track”

Thomas Krasonis sees the Oschersleben race as a prime opportunity to collect valuable points that will bring him even closer to the top of the standings in both categories.

“Two weeks ago I had the opportunity to be in Oschersleben and train for two days. We wanted to prepare as well as possible for this race weekend, which is probably the most crucial of the season. The Oschersleben circuit is one of the most technical tracks on the schedule. I would describe it as a difficult and demanding track, with slow tracks and not particularly high speeds, elements that certainly make it difficult for cars like the ones we drive in EuroNASCAR. In any case, we are fully prepared for this race in order to get even closer to our big goal this year”, Thomas Krasonis said.

Thomas Krasonis has 204 points in the “PRO” category and is in 11th place, while in “2” he is fifth with 246 points, just 64 away from leader Martin Doubek. In the Endurance standings he is fourth with 143 points.

Aiming for the double points in Germany

The time of the semi-finals in the NASCAR Euro Whelen has arrived. The Oschersleben circuit in Germany hosts this weekend’s semi-finals of this season, which offer double points to the winners and the chance for big upsets!

Thomas Krasonis, the first Greek professional racing driver, is already at the German circuit, where the sixth race weekend of this season’s EuroNASCAR will be held.

The sixth race of the season is perhaps the most important “rendez vous”, as the points won by each driver will count double. Therefore, for Thomas Krasonis it is a very good opportunity for him to get even closer to the top of the two categories’ standings.

The Motorsport Arena Oschersleben offers a unique experience with many off-track attractions, making the first round of the playoffs a fantastic celebration for NASCAR fans in Germany and across Europe. Helicopter flying, American ball sports, country music and a wide variety of food are just a few examples of the great spectacle that the German track offers from the first EuroNASCAR event in 2023. The track is 3.7 kilometres long and opened its gates in 1997.

The weekend’s racing programme starts with qualifying which will take place on Saturday at 10.50am (Athens time). The first races in both the PRO category (at 2.10 p.m. (Athens time) and category 2 (at 5.50 p.m. (Athens time)) will be held on Saturday.

On Sunday, the EuroNASCAR 2 drivers will start their second race at 11.40 a.m. (Athens time), to conclude the weekend’s programme with the PRO category race at 3.25 p.m. (Athens time).

We recall that Thomas Krasonis is participating this year in both EuroNASCAR categories, EuroNASCAR 2 and EuroNASCAR PRO, with the team with which in 2023 he made the big step in his racing career, Marko Stipp Motorsport.

Thomas is driving the number “46” Chevrolet Camaro at all Championship tracks this year, following a full schedule to maximise his track time and challenge for both titles.
