Excellent presence by Thomas Krasonis in Vallelunga

Thomas Krasoni’s presence at the second race weekend of the season in the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series at the Vallelunga circuit in Italy was completed in the best way.

The first Greek professional racing driver “touched” the podium in Sunday’s “2” category race, as he finished fourth, just 2 seconds behind third place winner. “We started the race very strongly, I climbed up to third place, but due to some on-track incidents I lost some positions. Subsequently, I regained most of them and finished fourth,” said Thomas Krasonis.

The “PRO” race was episodic, due to numerous on-track incidents. Krasonis started 14th, within a few laps he was in the top ten, but due to the aforementioned on-track incidents he dropped to 15th place.  Again following a very good strategy he recovered three places, finishing the race in 12th overall and third in the junior category.

Thomas Krasonis was just a breath away from reaching the podium in the first race of the EuroNASCAR category “2” at the Vallelunga circuit.

The Greek driver of Marko Stipp Motorsport started from 22nd on the grid, but by doing amazing things on a track he particularly likes, he managed to reach fourth place in the final classification.

“It was a very, very good race. Everything went smoothly, we had a very good pace, avoided the difficult situations and by maintaining high speed throughout the race, we came very close to the winners’ podium,” said Thomas Krasonis.

In the PRO category race, luck was not on the side of the Greek driver. He started from 18th place, but an accident close to him resulted in him dropping to 22nd place in the classification. With a sustained counterattack, Thomas Krasonis managed to climb up to 14th place, where he finished.

Sunday’s schedule includes the second races in both the “2” category (at 11.10 a.m. ET) and the “PRO” category (at 2.55 p.m. ET).

Thomas Krasonis: “All set for new podiums”

Thomas Krasonis is fully committed to his goal, which is none other than to claim both titles in the categories in which he participates. “We travel to Italy with a clear goal: our first victories of the season. Being on the podium in the first three days of racing this season was just the beginning. We have prepared very well in the time between Valencia and Vallelunga. Even during the Holy Days of Easter, we didn’t get complacent in order to continue even more strongly what we started in Valencia,” said the Greek driver.

He continued: “Valellunga is a favourite track for me. I know it very well, as I have been racing there for many years. It is a difficult and demanding track, which includes fast and technical sections. During the winter, together with our team, we worked closely on areas such as immediate reactions if something happens right in front of us. And this work showed in Valencia, when we avoided very unpleasant situations that unfolded right in front of us. We are ready for new pedestals”.

Thomas Krasonis concluded by saying that “a very important part of success is the excellent cooperation of all team members. We have an excellent cooperation with Marko Stipp Motorsport, which is now well into its second season. The car in Valencia worked extremely well, which is very important in order to be able to achieve our goals”.

All set for Round 2 of Nascer Whelen Euro Series

EuroNASCAR, round two for Thomas Krasonis. The first Greek professional racing driver, after the excellent first race weekend in Valencia, travels to Italy to participate in the second round of the Championship.

The Vallelunga Circuit has its roots in horse racing and was originally an oval track, where car races were also held. However, the track quickly evolved into a purely racing track, with fast and technical sections.

Parts of the track were designed by Italian racing legend Piero Taruffi, who raced in Formula 1 in the 1950s. Since the first visit in 2020, the EuroNASCAR V8 engines have proven to be a perfect match for the track and the 29,000 fan stands.

Thomas Krasonis is competing this year in both EuroNASCAR categories, EuroNASCAR 2 and EuroNASCAR PRO, with the team with which he took the big step in his racing career in 2023, Marko Stipp Motorsport.

Thomas is driving the number “46” Chevrolet Camaro at all Championship tracks this year, following a full schedule to maximise his track time and challenge for both titles.

The three-day race schedule begins on Friday with a total of four practice sessions, each lasting 30 minutes.

PRO qualifying will take place on Saturday at 10.20 a.m. (local time) for both classes.

The first race of the PRO category will take place on Saturday at 2.40 p.m. (local time), while that of the “2” category at 6.25 p.m.

The three-day programme will conclude on Sunday with the two categories’ races. Specifically, at 11.10 a.m. the start of the second race for EuroNASCAR 2 will be given, followed at 2.55 p.m. by the EuroNASCAR PRO race.

Thomas Krasonis: «We keep on pushing»

Thomas Krasonis was particularly happy after the race weekend in Valencia. The double podium in the junior category of EuroNASCAR PRO was the best start to a season, which is expected to be particularly demanding.

«EuroNASCAR Spain is over. On Saturday’s first race I managed to score a Top 10 finish in the EuroNASCAR PRO and a second place in the Junior Trophy, which was the first podium of the year.

On Sunday I managed to score another Top 10 finish in the main category, the EuroNASCAR PRO, finishing in the eight position, although I started in the 16th position of the grid.

Both results are very good, considering also our Top 5 finish in the second race of the EuroNASCAR2 category.

Another podium for Thomas Krasonis in Valencia

Thomas Krasonis finished the EuroNASCAR race in Valencia with another podium.

The first Greek professional racing driver was second in the EuroNASCAR PRO junior category in Sunday’s race, climbing again on the winners’ podium.

Thomas Krasonis was eighth in the race, having started from 16th on the grid. Following an excellent strategy and avoiding contact with other cars, Krasonis had a very good race, proving that this season started in an ideal way for him and his team, Marko Stipp Motorsport.

In the “2” category race, Thomas Krasonis finished in fifth place, putting Saturday’s misfortune behind him, when he retired on the last lap due to a differential problem in his Chevrolet Camaro.

After completing the first race weekend of the season, Thomas Krasonis is ninth in the PRO class standings with 56 points, while he is third in the junior class standings.

In the EuroNASCAR 2 standings he is 11th with 49 points, due to retiring in Saturday’s race.

The second race of the season is scheduled for the weekend of May 18-19 at the Vallelunga circuit in Italy.

First podium of the year for Thomas Krasonis in Valencia

The racing season started in the best way for Thomas Krasonis at the opening weekend of EuroNASCAR at the Valencia circuit.

The first Greek professional racing driver had an excellent race in the PRO category, as he started from 21st position, but with a sustained attack, he managed to climb up to 11th place in the standings.

Even more important, however, is the fact that Krasonis climbed to the second step of the podium in the junior category, winning his first trophy of the season.

In category “2”, Krasonis had an equally good race, as he was in sixth to seventh place in the ranking until the last round. However, a problem with the differential on his Chevrolet Camaro forced him to retire.

“The first day in Valencia ended with the first trophy of the year. We took second place in the EuroNASCAR PRO junior category after a very difficult race, during which we had excellent pace, high speed and a car that worked very well. In the category 2 race we were a bit unlucky, due to a problem with the differential. But overall I am satisfied with the pace and speed we had,” said Thomas Krasonis.

Getting ready for 2024

During the winter break Thomas Krasonis followed an intensive preparation programme in order to be ready for the new season.

In addition to daily training at a professional level, the preparation included the Greek driver’s participation in the World Series at the New Smyrna Speedway in Florida, USA. It was Krasoni’s second year in this particular week of racing, with the results attesting to the fact that the work done over the winter was significant, with finishes in the top ten of the races.

At the end of March Thomas was in Belgium and the Zolder circuit, where he conducted testing ahead of the new season.

This was followed by a stint at the Venray oval circuit, where he had the opportunity to drive in the V8 Oval Series and become more familiar with the conditions on this type of circuit.

 

A year of high expectations

“2024 starts for us with high expectations. The renewal of the partnership with Marko Stipp Motorsport last December was the first step. In the months leading up to it, I worked hard on a daily basis with the experienced team of professional trainers in order to be fully prepared to meet the increased demands of participating in two Championships,” said Thomas Krasonis.

“This year we decided to participate in both EuroNASCAR classes. The reason was twofold. On the one hand, we want to do as many kilometres as possible in order to further improve our racing level. On the other hand, our wish was to have the number 46 race car in its entirety in order to be able to work on the set up more closely, which was not possible while sharing the car with another teammate, racing only in PRO” he added.

“There’s a five-year plan that I’m following with the goal of becoming a NASCAR Cup Series driver in the United States. My team has given me everything I need to fight for my goals, so I have full confidence in them. We have developed a great chemistry with the whole team, and that’s something that helps me a lot,” Thomas Crasonis continued.
