First overall podium for Thomas Krasonis at Brands Hatch!

Thomas Krasonis started his racing commitments at the Brands Hatch circuit in an impressive way.

In the first race of the Nascar Whelen Euro Series category “2” for the third race weekend of the season, the Greek driver climbed to the third step of the podium in the overall standings! This is the first podium at overall classification level for Thomas Krasonis in his EuroNASCAR career to date.

“The category 2 race was one of the best of my career! Everything went as planned with Alon Day. A key moment was a pass I made, which allowed me to break away from the group of drivers in fourth place and below. As soon as I found a clear road in front of me, I was able to move quickly and this very important result was achieved,” said Thomas Krasonis.

In the PRO category race Thomas started from 11th position. Driving wisely, he managed to recover several positions, with the checkered flag dropping, eventually finding him in eighth place in the overall classification and third in the junior category.

The day program will be completed on Sunday with the races of the two categories. Specifically, at 3.35 p.m. the start of the second race for EuroNASCAR PRO will be given, followed at 6.45 p.m. by the EuroNASCAR 2 race. In the EuroNASCAR 2 race, Thomas will start from pole position for the first time in his EuroNASCAR career, as he also set the fastest lap in Saturday’s race!

Krasonis: “Brands Hatch is my favorite track”

England is a favourite destination for Thomas Krasonis, who actually took the first big steps of his international career several years ago on British soil.

Brands Hatch, in particular, is one of the tracks that Thomas loves to drive on, mainly because of its special characteristics, which make it one of the most exciting tracks on the Old Continent.

“I really, really like Branch Hatch. Without exaggeration, I would say it is my favourite track of those included in this year’s Nascar Euro Whelen programme. The season has started very well for us and I think we are on a very good level. Of course our goal remains to be on the podium at every race weekend, which is what we will be aiming for this race as well,” said the Greek driver.

He added: “What we want is to improve in every race. In Vallelunga I had one of the best race weekends in recent years, moving up several positions during the races, avoiding mishaps and collecting valuable points in both Championships. We continue strong, committed to our goal and totally focused.”

This year’s great “adventure” of participating in the Nascar Euro Whelen continues for Thomas Krasonis, who after the excellent results in Spain and Italy, returns to a country dear to him: the UK.

The first Greek professional racing driver is already in Brands Hatch, where the third race weekend of this season’s EuroNASCAR will take place.

With a length of 1,944 metres, six corners and no real straights for the 400 hp V8 engines to… unleash their virtues, Brands Hatch has gained a reputation as one of the most difficult circuits in the EuroNASCAR calendar. The reason, of course, is none other than the track’s physical profile, which creates unique corners, such as the steep downhill section at Paddock Hill Bend immediately followed by the uphill Druids hairpin. It takes perfect harmony between driver and car to become the king and prince of NASCAR in the UK.

The historic Indy Circuit of Brands Hatch will once again welcome the EuroNASCAR gladiators for the eleventh running of American SpeedFest. SpeedFest has proved to be an amazing spectacle for competitors and fans alike and with more than 50,000 people attending the tenth anniversary edition in 2023, expect the 2024 edition to live up to its hype with even more Pure Racing on-track action and a huge variety of off-track activities.

Thomas Krasonis is competing this year in both EuroNASCAR classes, EuroNASCAR 2 and EuroNASCAR PRO, with the team with which he made the big step in his racing career in 2023, Marko Stipp Motorsport.

Thomas is driving the number “46” Chevrolet Camaro at all Championship tracks this year, following a full schedule to maximise his track time and challenge for both titles.

The three-day race schedule begins on Friday with a total of four practice sessions, each lasting 30 minutes.

PRO qualifying will take place on Saturday at 10.50 a.m. (local time) for both classes.

The first PRO category race will be held on Saturday at 3.35 p.m. (local time), while the first PRO category race will be held at 6.50 p.m. (local time).

The three-day programme will conclude on Sunday with the two categories’ races. Specifically, at 3.35 p.m. the start of the second race for EuroNASCAR PRO will be given, followed at 6.45 p.m. by the EuroNASCAR 2 race.

In fourth place in the standings of category “2”

In category “2” the weekend in Vallelunga was excellent for Thomas Krasonis, who scored a total of 70 points from the two races, bringing his season total to 119. Thus he climbed to fourth place in the category “2” standings, just 36 points from the top.

In the “PRO” category standings, with 23 points from Saturday’s first race and the 25 he collected on Sunday, Thomas Crasonis has now reached 104 for the season so far and is ninth.

At the same time, Thomas has made a major contribution to Marko Stipp Motorsport accumulating 34 points in the Endurance Teams Championship and is now in third place in the standings with 65 points, just two away from the top!

Excellent presence by Thomas Krasonis in Vallelunga

Thomas Krasoni’s presence at the second race weekend of the season in the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series at the Vallelunga circuit in Italy was completed in the best way.

The first Greek professional racing driver “touched” the podium in Sunday’s “2” category race, as he finished fourth, just 2 seconds behind third place winner. “We started the race very strongly, I climbed up to third place, but due to some on-track incidents I lost some positions. Subsequently, I regained most of them and finished fourth,” said Thomas Krasonis.

The “PRO” race was episodic, due to numerous on-track incidents. Krasonis started 14th, within a few laps he was in the top ten, but due to the aforementioned on-track incidents he dropped to 15th place.  Again following a very good strategy he recovered three places, finishing the race in 12th overall and third in the junior category.

Thomas Krasonis “touched” the podium in Vallelunga

Thomas Krasonis was just a breath away from reaching the podium in the first race of the EuroNASCAR category “2” at the Vallelunga circuit.

The Greek driver of Marko Stipp Motorsport started from 22nd on the grid, but by doing amazing things on a track he particularly likes, he managed to reach fourth place in the final classification.

“It was a very, very good race. Everything went smoothly, we had a very good pace, avoided the difficult situations and by maintaining high speed throughout the race, we came very close to the winners’ podium,” said Thomas Krasonis.

In the PRO category race, luck was not on the side of the Greek driver. He started from 18th place, but an accident close to him resulted in him dropping to 22nd place in the classification. With a sustained counterattack, Thomas Krasonis managed to climb up to 14th place, where he finished.

Sunday’s schedule includes the second races in both the “2” category (at 11.10 a.m. ET) and the “PRO” category (at 2.55 p.m. ET).

Thomas Krasonis: “All set for new podiums”

Thomas Krasonis is fully committed to his goal, which is none other than to claim both titles in the categories in which he participates. “We travel to Italy with a clear goal: our first victories of the season. Being on the podium in the first three days of racing this season was just the beginning. We have prepared very well in the time between Valencia and Vallelunga. Even during the Holy Days of Easter, we didn’t get complacent in order to continue even more strongly what we started in Valencia,” said the Greek driver.

He continued: “Valellunga is a favourite track for me. I know it very well, as I have been racing there for many years. It is a difficult and demanding track, which includes fast and technical sections. During the winter, together with our team, we worked closely on areas such as immediate reactions if something happens right in front of us. And this work showed in Valencia, when we avoided very unpleasant situations that unfolded right in front of us. We are ready for new pedestals”.

Thomas Krasonis concluded by saying that “a very important part of success is the excellent cooperation of all team members. We have an excellent cooperation with Marko Stipp Motorsport, which is now well into its second season. The car in Valencia worked extremely well, which is very important in order to be able to achieve our goals”.
